Specialty Tobacco Flavors

A.1. Target Flavors

Target Flavors are specific building block combinations, based on fingerprinting of many tobacco varieties and qualities.  With the building block combinations, we can improve lower grade tobacco into higher grade tobaccos.

o       Building Block 1

It can be used to enhance the bright radiant notes of tobacco. Especially to convert a dull tobacco into a brighter more lively type.

o       Building Block 2

If a tobacco is “peaking”, e.g. not balanced, it is used to :level off” the tobacco taste.  Thus resulting in a more general and balanced character.

o       Building Block 3

If you need an aromatic oriental note in your tobacco or you want to upgrade an oriental type, it is recommended.

o       Building Block 4

With this version you can give a lighter type of tobacco a “dark tobacco-like” note.  But when applied on a dark tobacco, this BBC has a balancing effect and creates a more complete tobacco characters.

o       Building Block 5

This building block combination increase body and mouthfeel of smoke without effecting the taste of the tobacco.

o       Building Block 6

To increase impact of a tobacco, BBC-6 is recommended.  Also “flat” tobaccos can be reinforced using BBC-6.

o       Building Block 7

To increase the fermented notes of tobacco, BBC-7 is recommended.  BBC-7 is based on extensive analysis of highly fermented tobaccos.

2. Substitutes

In this section we offer you a range of flavors substituting commodities like cocoa, etc.  The substitutes will give the same effect and taste as original products.

The major advantages of using substitutes are :

o       Lower price

o       Uniform quality

o       Legislation (GRAS status)

3. Traditionals

This part of collection has been divided into :

o       Alcohol soluble top flavors

o       Water soluble casing sauces

o       Casing Flavors

To facilitate retrieval, the top flavors have been subdivided into :

o       Fruity Flavors

o       Spicy Flavors

o       Gurih Flavors

o       Sweet Flavors

o       Others

With the heading Traditionals we refer to the flavors commonly used by cigarette industry.

4. Specialties

Specialties are derived from natural products.  Because these products are prepared by special processes the product characteristics are unique.  Main application are of these products is in the casing but if desired, also in the top flavor.

5. Tobacco-Like Flavors

Besides the Building Block Combinations shown in the targeting part of the TIN Collection, the targeting technique has also been used to create complete tobacco-like flavors.

6. Clove and Clove Stem Flavors

Besides the traditional clove improvers, this collection also contains a clove stem improver based on TIN technology and a Building Block system for flexible clove stem improvement.

A.2. Irritation Reducers

Irritation Reducers are active flavor system.  The flavors are water soluble and subsequently used in the casing stage.  When used at dosages 5 – 10% they are very effective in reducing irritation caused by stems and reconstituted tobacco.  For reducing the irritation of low quality tobacco leaves, we recommended use levels 0.1 – 1%.

A.3. Neutralizer

Neutralizer are flavor systems based on precursor technology.  They neutralize off-taste and off-odor of stems, recon and tobacco leaf, on burning.

Application of Neutralizer is 1 – 5% in the casing for stems and recon.

For tobacco leaf we recommended 1% or lower depending on the effect desired.
